About Joanie Tompkins

Making the decision to seek therapy can be difficult, and even scary, whether you are doing it for the first time, or are experienced with the therapeutic process. It takes courage to admit that your life is not all that you want it to be, and to be willing to look for a way to grow and make changes. People find themselves seeking therapy for a variety of reasons: life transitions, relationship challenges, sadness or depression, anxiety, or because they want to live a more satisfying life and find more meaning in their current circumstancs.

I believe that we all have the inner strength and knowledge to face our challenges and grow through them to a life of meaning and satisfation. I see my place as your therapist as a guide and witness who will work with you collaboratively to discover new ways of responding to the world around you that are not only effective, but enriching. My therapeutic approach is client centered and mainly psychodynamic, but I am an integrative therapist, and will often use other modalities as well, such as CBT or mindfulness. My intention is to create a unique therapeutic environment for each client according to your needs, but always strive to bring warmth, caring, empathy and humor to the sessions, and to create a safe place for you to explore the issues that are important to you.
