Sharon McLaughlin, LMFT
Location: Santa RosaPhone: (707) 303-3237I have been a therapist for over 25 years and genuinely love the work. I’ve had the privilege of working with people at all stages of development from children and adolescents, individuals and families, as well as older adults. I have provided group and individual supervision to therapy interns, and spent years writing reviews of psychotherapy publications and video demonstrations; all of which have provided me with a wealth of therapeutic knowledge from which to create a personalized plan of services unique to each individual.
I believe we all have conscious and unconscious processes that are always influencing our decisions and our actions. Sometimes the internal beliefs and behaviors which helped in the past are no longer providing relief and hinder our ability to move forward, resulting in such challenges as anxiety, depression, isolation and feeling stuck. In our work together we will create a safe space to explore what may be slowing you down. We’ll bring curiosity -not judgement – to those coping mechanisms that are no longer working. We’ll honor their original purpose and work together to develop new strategies with which to create a richer and more compelling future.
I draw from narrative, Cognitive Behavioral, Psychodynamic, Ericksonian and Solution Focused methods of therapy, blending them in ways that fit you as an individual. I pay close attention to identifying patterns in interpersonal relationships, as well as verbal and non verbal communication where misunderstandings may happen. Together we will discover the innate skills and talents you already possess, and incorporate them into a new ability to move toward your goals.
